Dr. Ulf ME Wikesjo received his DDS from Lund University, Sweden, and a DMD from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA; certification for advanced training in Periodontology at Lund University from the National Board of Health and Welfare, Sweden, and from Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA; and a Ph.D. (Odont. Dr.) on Experimental Wound Healing from Lund University. Dr. Wikesjo currently holds appointments as Professor of Periodontics, Oral Biology & Maxillofacial Pathology; Director, Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA; and Associate Professor of Periodontology, Malmo University, Centre for Oral Health Sciences, Malmo, Sweden. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He serves on the Editorial Board of several scientific journals in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.

Prior coming to Medical College of Georgia, Dr Wikesjo served as Professor of Periodontics, Loma Linda University, Head, Principal Scientist, Preclinical Research, Oral/Maxillofacial Studies, Bone Biology & Applications, Genetics Institute, Inc. (Wyeth Research), Andover, MA, and Professor of Periodontology and Oral Biology, Temple University. He is the founding Director of the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration.

Dr. Wikesjo has developed and characterized unique discriminating models to evaluate the biologic and clinical potential of bone biomaterials/devices, and biologic factors including bone morphogenetic proteins for craniofacial tissue engineering with emphasis on alveolar augmentation, to evaluate oral implant/bone interface biology, and for periodontal wound healing/regeneration. His Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration collaborates with academic and corporate centers within the US, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. Dr. Wikesjo is a leader in his field and he presents his research worldwide. He is the author of more than 150 original articles in refereed scientific journals and texts, and he has made more than 150 invited presentations at international scientific workshops and conferences, academic institutions, and learned societies.

Dr. Mohammed Qahash received his DDS from Medical College of Virginia (1996) and an MS in Oral Biology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA (2002). He also received certification for advanced training in Periodontology at Temple University School of Dentistry in 2002.

Dr. Qahash belongs to the scientific staff of the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal and Craniofacial Regeneration since 2000. He also has a teaching appointment at the Department of Dentistry, St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, PA.

Dr. Qahash focuses his research on alveolar and periodontal regeneration, and tissue engineering within the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration. His clinical activity is predominantly in Pennsylvania, USA.

Dr. Andreas Xiropaidis received his DDS from University of Athens, School of Dentistry, Athens, Greece (1996) and an MS in Oral Biology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA (2002). He also received certification for advanced training in Periodontology at Temple University School of Dentistry in 2002.

Dr. Andreas Xiropaidis is working in private practice at his Periodontology and Dental Implant Specialty Clinic (Athens, Greece). He gives courses on basic and advanced implant therapy in Athens, Greece for Nobel Biocare. He belongs to the scientific staff of the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration since 2000.

Dr. Andreas Xiropaidis focuses his research on tissue engineering evaluating applications of bone morphogenetic proteins for implant dentistry and periodontal regeneration within the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration.


Dr. Yi-Hao Huang is the Director of Dr. Huang's Periodontology and Dental Implant Specialty Clinic and a part-time clinical instructor at National Taiwan University Hospital, Department of Periodontology, and Triservice General Hospital Department of Periodontology, Taipei, Taiwan. He belongs to the scientific staff of the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration since 2001. Dr. Huange is the former secretary in chief for Taiwan Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (TAAD).


Dr. Yi-Hao Huang received his DDS from Kaohsiung Medical University Dental School, Kaohsiung, Taiwan (1997) and an MS in Oral Biology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA (2003). He also received certification for advanced training in Periodontology at Temple University School of Dentistry in 2003.


Dr. Yi-Hao Huang focuses his research on tissue engineering evaluating applications of bone morphogenetic proteins for implant dentistry within the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal and Craniofacial Regeneration, National Defense Medical Center and National Taiwan University Hospital. His clinic functions in aesthetic dentistry is centered in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan.

Dr. Giuseppe Polimeni received his DDS from Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, Italy (1998) and an MS in Oral Biology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA (2003). He also received certification for advanced training in Periodontology at Temple University School of Dentistry in 2003.

Dr. Polimeni has been member of the scientific staff of the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal and Craniofacial Regeneration since 2001. He also has a teaching appointment at the Department of Periodontology, Universita di Ferrara, Italy.

Dr. Polimeni focuses his research on prognostic factors for alveolar and periodontal regeneration, and tissue engineering within the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration. His clinical activity is predominantly in Bologna, Italy.

Dr. Ki-Tae Koo received his DDS from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea (1999) and an MS in Oral Biology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA (2003). He also received certification for advanced training in Periodontology at Temple University School of Dentistry in 2003.

Dr. Koo currently has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor at Samsung Medical Center, Department of Periodontology. He also holds positions in the Korean Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants and Korean Academy of Periodontology as the Director of International Affairs and Teaching Faculty. He has been an active member of the scientific staff of the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal and Craniofacial Regeneration since 2001 and is continuing joint projects through the PhD program at Yonsei University.

Dr. Koo focuses his research on periodontal regeneration and tissue engineering within the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration, in particular clinical evaluation of novel implant and bone regenerative technologies.

Dr. Cristiano Susin is currently appointed as Associated Professor of Periodontology at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul School of Dentistry, Porto Alegre, Brazil. A duel citizen of Brazil and Italy, he completed his DDS degree at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1996. During his undergraduate dental studies he was awarded a 3-year research scholarship. 1997 through 1999, Dr. Susin completed a fellowship and was awarded an MSD in Periodontology at the Lutheran University School of Dentistry, Canoas, Brazil. In 2004, Dr. Susin received his PhD from the University of Bergen, Faculty of Dentistry, Bergen, Norway. His doctoral thesis research, fully funded by a federal Brazilian grant, focused on the epidemiology and risk indicators for destructive periodontal diseases in an urban population in Southern Brazil.

Dr. Susin has authored and co-authored the Portuguese-language textbook Evidence-Based Dentistry in Practice (1999), 3 chapters in books, a Position Paper on Periodontal Epidemiology for the Brazilian Society of Periodontology, as well as 27 scientific reports (9 in Portuguese and 18 in English) in peer-reviewed dental journals.
